Thank you for responding.

I'm kind of confused right now. All the advice is not going in a single direction.

Here's what I think I should do:

Take the .config file from /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.15-25-686/.config and use that as my base reference file. I figure that's the one to go with as it's the config file from the last installation I had before upgrading the kernel. And since it was the Ubuntu config... well, I don't know why that would be good, but since I'm using Ubuntu, an Ubuntu config file should be a good thing, shouldn't it?

Then tweak that config file for some performance considerations and ip_tables and IVTV and things.

Then recompile it and install it.

The thing is that I don't see how I'm supposed to know what modules I should need. Like, how was I ever going to guess that ip_tables would be an issue? How can I know what the next issue will be?
