You missed the point entirely. They defined the goals, they set
milestones, they accomplished the tasks. Having accomplished their
goals, they are now trailblazing into new territory. Don't get caught
just seeing the forest for the trees. A singular direction among
developers is a wonderful thing. The "Unix Room" vision of sharing
ideas and communication model works in spades. Now even Google has
attempted to copy and expand upon the idea.
