Well, I thought I had tweaked this as much as I could, but, lo and behold! - even though I was checking 'Enable' for the edge resistance setting in the Enlightenment desktop configuration, it wasn't staying checked (Heaven knows why!) until I actually changed the resistance value too. The 'reset all settings to system defaults' hadn't helped either, by the way. Anyhow, it's now working again. Thanks, Jonathan.
