Oh, i forgot to mention the plans to make a Gnome mail system: it should be on a Corba kind of architecture with connections to imap servers, a gnome frontend, and web access too. Havoc said that Gnome International Support (the company founded by Miguel de Igaza of Gnome fame) has already got funding to do this.
