announcement for the Monday Oct. 18 meeting, which may be of interest. Note
the yen 5,000 cost and the dinner. The talk starts at 7pm, and 6:30 the

Steve Carter

Kaisha Society presents a panel discussion on The Future of
Telecommunication in Japan, to be held this Monday, October 18 at 6:30PM at
the Foreign Correspondence Club of Japan, on the 20th floor of the Yurakucho
Denki Building. (Next to the JR Yurakucho station, or exit A3 of Hibiya
station on the Yurakucho, Hibiya, Chiyoda, and Mita subway lines.)

We have been hearing about some very exciting technological and service
strategies from telecommunications companies, such as FWA (Fixed Wireless
Access), cable TV-Internet-Telephone all-in-one service, end-to-end IP
(Internet Protocol) network, WAP (Wireless Application Protocol), and
endless other acronyms. The Japanese telecommunications industry and
market, following the recent international trend, look like they are heading
into some fundamental changes.

Confirmed participants are KDD WinStar, Titus Communications, and Reach
Telemanagement. Still to be confirmed are Airtouch/J-Phone, Level3, and
Dennotai. The moderator for the panel discussion will be Mr. Edward Yagi,
whom you may know as the telecommunications analyst at the U.S. Embassy in
Japan. We would like to stress that Mr. Yagi will be participating in a
private capacity and maintaining a professional neutrality for the event.

Reservation not required. Non-members 5,000 yen, includes buffet and
drinks.
