Many thanks to Jerome for that tip; I see 
now that he seems to have sent it 
to the tlug digest himself (I thought 
it can from another source). 

btw, some people like to put 
all this: 

novj novjccomp nodeflate nopcomp  nobsdcomp  noaccomp

in their /etc/ppp/options file. 

something to try if novj doesn't work 
by itself or if performance isn't good, 
I guess.
