Well, I managed to compile the 2.2.1 kernel and it seems to be working well with TL's Chinese 3.0.2. Interestingly, the modutils version (2.1.55) that come with the original kernel (2.0.36), though it should be one of the newest around, was rejected during the pcmcia-cs compiling. I finally tried compiling pcmcia-cs modutils that comes with Turbolinux 3.0, (2.1.85) and it worked.Updating to an older version seemed to do the trick. Mind you, I still haven't been able to actually mount pcmcia yet, but there were no errors during compilation... Though most everything seems to have survived the new kernel implant, there are some problems that need fixing right off. Please advise if they sound familiar. I should also mention that I updated the Xwindows, tcl and some other things with the files from TL's update disk for TLJ 3.0 . Also that these problems (pretty sure all of them) go away when I switch back to the 2.0.36 kernel. 1) with less, ls -lart and anything else that causes data to flow vertically across the screen, the data flow is much slower than it was before with the older kernel. 2) I can't delete, type or move the cursor by holding down the appropriate key. for example, characters must be deleted one by one by pressing and releasing the backspace key. must fix this; I use those arrow keys quite a bit. 3) when terminating midnight commander I get an xterm full of digital garbage. I heard this might be a tcl problem, but haven't seen how to fix it yet. I can live with this app but prefer to fix it as I use it from time to time. 4) ppp connects but I can neither send/receive mail nor use the web browser. fetchmail then times out. this doesn't happen all the time, but most of the time. reducing the modem speed setting had no effect... Does this have to do with the fact that /dev/cua? system is not supported? I changed the /dev/cua(1) in ppp-on to the appropriate ttyS1. Is that all it takes to fix the problem? is this cua/ tty?? thing not related? Thanks! (hoping soon to settle down with a stable environment, stop tweaking and get back to work! ) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Technical Meeting: August 14 (Sat), 13:00 place: Temple Univ. *** Special guest: Marc Christensen (Salt Lake Linux Users Group) Next Nomikai: September 20 (Fri), 19:30 Tengu TokyoEkiMae 03-3275-3691 ------------------------------------------------------------------- more info: http://www.tlug.gr.jp Sponsor: Global Online Japan
