T L U G - Tokyo Linux Users Group ********************************** Meeting information: Date: June 19 (Saturday) Time: 18:30 - 20:00 Place: Temple University 2-8-12 Minami Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo (map at http://www.tuj.ac.jp/maps.html) Talk: 1. Linux SMP on a quad-Xeon server 2. Green Frog Linux All Linux users and supporters of open source code and free software are invited to attend this Tokyo Linux Users Group (TLUG) meeting. Membership is open to anyone. There are no membership dues or entrance fees (we will accept donations to help cover the room usage costs). At this meeting, TLUG member Austin Kurahone will give us an overview of Green Frog Linux, a mini-distro of his own creation. Austin is probably one of the youngest people in Japan who has his own Linux distribution package. Check http://members.linuxstart.com/~austin/index.html for details. The second topic will be Linux SMP on a quad-Xeon server. Our guest speaker will be Mr. Chai Mee Joon Lawrence, Cycle Master CTO http://www.quadlinux.com He have conducted a Workshop (W3-2) entitled "Linux SMP and the Intel SC450NX Quad Xeon Server platform" on March 5th at the Suntec City International Convention Centre, as part of the Singapore Linux Conference 1999, and at this meeting he will show us the highlights of that presentation. http://slc.linux.com.sg/programplan.htm TLUG CD-ROMs ------------ Austin Kurahone and Uva "Uva" Coder are burning the latest edition of the TLUG original CD-ROM, that will be available at the meeting for a nominal fee. This month's CD will contain: Linux kernels 2.2.9 and 2.3.6, Gnome and KDE, Code Crusader, RC5-DES clients (participate in the RC5-64 cracking effort by joining the TLUG Team!), and much more good and useful stuff. About TLUG ---------- TLUG is a non-profit, non-political organization established in June of 1994 to exchange information on the use of Linux and Free Software Foundation tools. TLUG has an active mailing list, home page, and regular physical meetings. Discussions are primarily held in English, but non-English speakers are encouraged to come and participate. We especially want to encourage Japanese people to attend and will make efforts to support a bilingual meeting. TLUG hosts technical meetings every even month on the 2nd Saturday, and nomikai's every odd month on the 3rd Friday. * This meeting will be held extraordinarily on the third Saturday of June, in order to fit into the schedule of our guest speaker. It will be an evening meeting (from 6:30 til 8PM), and we will head to a restaurant/izakaya afterwards. The TLUG home page is available at http://tlug.gr.or.jp Meeting Place ------------- (map at http://www.tuj.ac.jp/maps.html) The Temple University Japan (TUJ) Campus is located at 'San no Hashi' (the street name is 'Sakurada Dori'). The DHC building across the street has a HUGE four sided sign that says DHC. The 06 bus from Shibuya stops at Furukawa-bashi, which is a one block walk away from TUJ. TUJ is in a single big building with a sign out front, right on Sakurada Dori. Cab drivers will take you right there if you ask for San no Hashi. It is a 15 minute walk from Tamachi, but while it is pretty straight forward, it needs a map, as there are a couple of jogs in the route. The 96 bus also stops there, and I think the 92 bus as well. It is a 20 minute walk from Hiro (Just go to Tengen-ji Bashi intersection and head toward Azabu Ju-ban on Meijidori), or a minimum price cab ride from either Hiro or Tamachi Once in the university building, go up the stairs opposite the elevator to the second floor, turn right down the hall to room 206. Of course you can use the elevator as needed. If you are coming to the meeting, join the mailing list by sending e-mail to majordomo@example.com including subscribe tlug end in the body of the message. You can get a feeling for what the group is like by looking at the mail on the mailing list.
