T L U G - Tokyo Linux Users Group ********************************** Meeting information: Date: Saturday, February 13, 1999 Time: 12:30 Place: Temple University, 8F, rooms 803 and 804 2-8-12 Minami Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo (map at http://www.tuj.ac.jp/maps.html) Talk: XEmacs/Mule/Internationalization and Open Source Software development All Linux users and supporters of open source code and free software are invited to attend this Tokyo Linux Users Group (TLUG) meeting. Membership is open to anyone. There are no membership dues or entrance fees (we will accept donations to help cover the room usage costs). About TLUG ---------- TLUG is a non-profit, non-political organization established in June of 1994 to exchange information on the use of Linux and Free Software Foundation tools. TLUG has an active mailing list, home page, and regular physical meetings. Discussions are primarily held in English, but non-English speakers are encouraged to come and participate. We especially want to encourage Japanese people to attend and will make efforts to support a bilingual meeting. TLUG hosts technical meetings every even month on the 2nd Saturday, and nomikai's every odd month on the 3rd Friday. The TLUG home page is available at http://tlug.linux.or.jp Technical Meeting Topic ----------------------- Steven Baur is the head maintainer of XEmacs (since 19.15/20.0) and has a large experience in various areas of software. Martin Buchholz is currently the active developer most familiar with Mule internals. He was formerly employed by Sun Microsystems to work on XEmacs, and in particular on Mule. Steven and Martin will talk about the current status of XEmacs development, Mule and multi-lingual support, the influence of Java on internationalization and the future of XEmacs and Emacs-like environments. They will also talk about Open Source Software (OSS) development issues, such as project management, commercial support for an independent OSS project, and the future of internationalization in the Open Source community. Raffle and items for auction ---------------------------- The following items will be raffled or auctioned at the meeting: * RedHat Linux Variety Pack CD-ROMs (contains the Red Hat Linux 5.2 distribution for the Alpha, Intel and SPARCplatforms, along with the source code) * TLUG CD-ROMs (TLUG original! featuring the updated TLUG mailing list and Web archives, Monash Nihongo Archive, Linux kernels v2.2.1 and v2.0.36, XFree86 3.3.3.1, Netscape/Muriari, Mozilla, and more) * hardware: 486 desktop machines, keyboards, speakers, power supplies * RedHat Linux T-shirts, mouse pads, bumper stickers Meeting Place ------------- (map at http://www.tuj.ac.jp/maps.html) The Temple University Japan (TUJ) Campus is located at 'San no Hashi' (the street name is 'Sakurada Dori'). The DHC building across the street has a HUGE four sided sign that says DHC. The 06 bus from Shibuya stops at Furukawa-bashi, which is a one block walk away from TUJ. TUJ is in a single big building with a sign out front, right on Sakurada Dori. Cab drivers will take you right there if you ask for San no Hashi. It is a 15 minute walk from Tamachi, but while it is pretty straight forward, it needs a map, as there are a couple of jogs in the route. The 96 bus also stops there, and I think the 92 bus as well. It is a 20 minute walk from Hiro (Just go to Tengen-ji Bashi intersection and head toward Azabu Ju-ban on Meijidori), or a minimum price cab ride from either Hiro or Tamachi Once in the university building, take the elevator to the 8th floor. Turn left out of the elevator and you will walk right into a foyer and see the rooms 803/804 where the meeting will take place. If you are coming to the meeting, join the mailing list by sending e-mail to majordomo@example.com including subscribe tlug end in the body of the message. You can get a feeling for what the group is like by looking at the mail on the mailing list.
