I was about to answer that it is fine. The other day I needed to setup a
network printer, so I plugged it into the router. But whenever I tried to
do anything the printers default IP address got routed to the outside world.

So I bypassed the router and plugged the machine directly into the printer,
and was able to connect (*) and change the default IP address. After that I
plugged it back into the router and everything was fine (*2).

*: But I didn't have the red lights on the two network cards to say I had a
connection, and I only tried the software that came with the printer.

*2: Except the printer doesn't announce itself to the windows network.
Anyone had a similar problem or want to guess a solution? Do I need to add
the printer to the DNS server?
