That's on my list of things to do also, but this was for a little item
called Meat.  It grabs a list of the latest new stuff on Freshmeat and
displays them in a window.  There's one like it for Slashdot, also.  In
general, just about everything these days seems to require GTK+
1.1.something, though.

I sometimes use gimp, yes.  1.0.5 comes with TL, and the packages that
use GTK+ require it.  Whether or not any of them will actually break if
that is replaced, I don't know, but this is the list of dependencies you
get if you try to rpm -e gtk+-1.0.5:

libgdk.so.1 is needed by gimp-1.0.0-7TL
        libgdk.so.1 is needed by gtk+-perl-0.2-6TL
        libgdk.so.1 is needed by gtkicq-072098-1TL
        libgdk.so.1 is needed by karpski-0.95-2TL

So needless to say, I want to be careful what I do here when treading on
this new (for me) ground.
