That message seems to have gone away now (don't know why) and I
finally got the routing working (I'm now 0 for 2 on having turbopppcfg
set things up correctly on a machine that has an Ethernet card for my
local network and uses a PPP connection to the Internet). The NAG, the
route man page, and looking at the routing table in a machine connected
directly to the Internet got me fixed up.

According to the syslog messages, it was making the PPP connection, but
leaving the default route set to go through eth0, which would get me
nowhere. If I understand things correctly, it's not supposed to do
that, but it did. At least now that it's fixed, I (hope) I can do it on
any other machines where I encounter the problem.

Next, I'm going to have even more fun: set up a dial-up router
connected to one machine, and IP masq all the others. I must be a
glutton for punishment :-)
