Still can't do it, y'all. Thanks to Jonathan, we now have several init strings that all produce connections. Problem is, those connections don't last any longer than (insert your favorite sexual analogy here). I truly hope somebody can suggest why the connections are closing virtually immediately. It's not the password or userid, either. ;-) Thanks, everyone.
