>>>>> Scott Stone writes: (on 28 Oct 98) > btw, what overreaction? It just seems to me that some folks on this list are taking things too seriously. I've no opposition to creating an advocacy list, but I doubt I'll subscribe since it will likely become mostly the equivalent of the penalty box in hockey (blue language and all). Unfortunately, I suspect there *will* occasionally be posts I would have liked to read (like the slashdot ref I just posted). I'd rather just ignore/delete the mail I'm not interested in. It's not like the volume on the tlug list is overwhelming! Of *course* there will be people on lists you disagree with or can't get along with. That's why God invented mail filters and kill files. :-) (I've gotten pretty handy with ^R (mark thread as read) in mutt.) If I unsubscribed or got upset every time I came across a post I disagree with or from someone I dislike (or everytime a flamewar broke out) I'd either have ulcers or not belong to any lists. What's gotten into everybody? We've got masochists getting upset when they see windows bashing on a linux list, people longing for "the good ole days" leaving the list because too many newcomers aren't gurus and want applications, people complaining because they had to see mail about somebody's birthday party, and normally nice, quiet, rational people posting knee-jerk responses they probably regret ("if you don't like it, go somewhere else" kinds of things). Bah! *Everyone* has a valid point of view. Let's just be willing to bend a little. Sheesh.
