I just did this, (in my .Xdefaults)
 and now ctrl-kanji starts input but won't turn it off. 
Shift-space and ctrl-space will both turn it off.  Moreover, shift-space
will still start Japanese input.  What would I need to do to
get on and off both working on the same combination of key strokes and only
that combination?
