tlug: Re: My *beepin* 486

Curious, aren't we! :-)

I'm still using the TC430HX system (with a P166) as my W98 system. I had 80meg ram for this
system, but since the m/b only supported 64meg system memory caching, anything over 64meg
actually slowes the system, so I thought I'd try the extra 16 in the 486... but no-go. I
want to set up the 486 as a Linux machine, maybe fiddle around with networking, samba, etc.

I have yet another 486 (DX50 - the chip is soldered to the m/b ?!) which I haven't started
on yet. That will be a give-away to a friend who has never been on the net yet, if I can
get it up and running with W95. I've already got memory (30pin) for this system, but if
anyone hears of old harddisks, modems, monitors going for cheap (or less :-) I'm all ears...

...what I have in mind next is getting a Celeron300A up to 464mhz (maybe even 504mhz)...
outperforms a 450 PII :-)
