The following quote, which appeared in an article on news.com, is from red Pollock, director of measurement, architecture, and planning at Intel, speaking on the importance of UNIX to the Merced chip and its successor, McKinley: "Ask analysts--it's more scalable than [Microsoft's Windows] NT. It's important to have Unix on IA-64 [Merced]." Makes you wonder just how great the emerging rift between MS and Intel will grow, when you see high-ranking members of Intel saying things like that. 1999 and the early 2000s are shaping up to offer potential for a real UNIX resurgence against NT.
