This is true.  Sorry.

Still, one shouldn't _have_ to hang out in Akihabara (in the back
streets, yet), any more than one should have to hang out in Silicon
Valley.  :-(

Nor do all businesses have choice of location (although Scott's did, I
presume).

Times and circumstances are different, alas.  The guy who sold me the
physically incompatible chips does good business here; he hustles
(both in the athletic and sleaze senses).  And most people here have
big enough budgets (gack) that they just buy whatever Microsoft
specifies.  So he doesn't have to be knowledgable; I'm sure he's no
programmer.
