I couldn't be bothered setting up vfat for that, so I zip the files into
an archive with a short filename, and sneakernet that instead.

All the time. For BIG files I use a ZIP drive for the same purpose. It's
a better way of moving files between office and home.

Should this be called hobnailed-boot-net?   8-)}
