I've seen this twice now... including once last night on Jonathan's friend Hiromi's letsnote PC... the 'Buffalo' IDE pc-card that seems to be commonly sold along with a certain external CD drive and the Letsnote notebook machines... intermittently works. pcmcia-cs detects it, but says 'ide_register() failed at 0x(address), irq (irq)'. However, if I boot the machine with both this card and a 3c589 card in it, it usually works. But not always. I emailed the PCMCIA author, David Hinds, and asked him.. he suggested putting a spinup delay in the pcmcia config, which I'll try.. however, he also said that the register fail is normal if there's nothing attached to the card - so I'm thinking it might be the fault of the CD drive, not the card? Incidentally, i couldn't get Windows 95 to even recognize that there was a card in the slot at all. Then again, the second time I rebooted Win95, it didn't recognize that there was a working PCMCIA controller in the system, either.. sigh. -------------------------------------------------- Scott M.
