Now that Japan has eased off some of its more ridiculous restrictions on redialing (which 3Com properly implemented) I really like the 3C56x series of Ethernet/modem combos. I use one to turn my one-slot Stinkpad 330cs into a home external router and masquerader. The 3c589_cs and serial_cs drivers worked first time, every time. Current international (including Japan) version is 3C563D. To avoid: anything old enough that redials are subjected by the firmware to the former regulatory imposed 3 minute wait.... (The 3Com cards could be reconfigured to be say US or German compatible and this is disabled, but I don't know what side effects besides disabling the wait that might have.) -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +1 (298) 53-5091 -------------------------------------------------------------- Next Nomikai: 18 September, 19:30 Tengu TokyoEkiMae 03-3275-3691 Next Meeting: 10 October, Tokyo Station Yaesu central gate 12:30 -------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsor: PHT, makers of TurboLinux http://www.pht.co.jp
