There was a mention of IMAP security issues. That was with respect to the UW implementation. I don't see why IMAP as specified by the RFC need be insecure (of course, one has to be careful about buffering, requiring communication via netstrings or IMAP literals instead of permitting ordinary strings would help, so IMAP could be better).
