tlug: this is the weirdest thing

this is odd... I'm in the USA, logged into the main fileserver, a stable
system. I'm trying to telnet to our mud. I do 'telnet mud 3000', put in
my username, pw, then I get:

telnet: ring.cc:104: void ringbuf::ungetch(int): Assertion '!"Bad
ungetch"' failed. IOT trap/Abort (core dumped)

What would cause telnet to crash like this?? I've never seen such a thing
in my life.
