It is quite true that the USA still prohibits encryption software from leaving the country. I think you can guess how effective they are in the private sector. But they do screw up the public sector, thus you can't download 128 bit Netscape outside the US. There are two examples right now showing that the idiots still have blinders on. A Silicon Valley programmer (I think) has been hauled in for questioning because he had a 128 bit encryption product available for download from his web site. I'm certain it's in the news somewhere in the last two weeks. Look through the slashdot.org archives. And yesterday or the day before, there was a meeting between the Justice Dept idiots-in-charge and leading computer businessmen. As usual, the FBI insists there will be lives lost (I am not making this up) if the FBI can't read your email at will. It amazes me how little understanding of computers these idiots have, if they think they can ban software. With big companies complaining of piracy all the time, why can't these bureaucrats see that ANY software can be pirated? I understand them wanting to control such things and keep their power, I just do not understand how they can possibly imagine it possible. -- ... _._. ._ ._. . _._. ._. ___ .__ ._. . .__. ._ .. ._.
