Well, which do you want, a good one or a cheap one?  :-)

Seriously, though, it can be hard to do both.   Prices probably won't vary a
great deal from store to store (Japan is like that).  One of my favorite
notebook machines is the Panasonic Let's Note, because it has a trackball
much like the ones on old Mac Powerbooks.  The new Sony Vaio line is also
getting good reviews from people.

If you want to look at a lot of notebooks for comparison, go to the T-Zone
store in Akihabara.  They have several dozen demo notebooks set up.

What are your needs for performance, memory, hard disk, display type and
size?
