If you can't configure something as simple as this in a GNU Emacs, the
developers won't need to be threatened with death, they'll jump off a
bridge from shame.

In GNU Emacs, if it can annoy you, it can be configured.  RTFM or ask
in an appropriate forum (eg, tlug or comp.emacs).

Love and user data are equally fragile and equally precious.  Users,
however, do not backup as a rule; the system should do it for them.
Unfortunately there's no similar simple preventative for broken hearts
;-)
