I consulted the docu of my modem and > it seemed that I have to put a @ or W into the ATDP command, > but that doesn't work. Any ideas? That old problem :-))) The atx command is responsible for that. If you say atx1 or atx3 your modem will ignore the diatone. atx0 and atx2 tell it to watch out for a dialtone. Ypu just put such a command into your init string and you're set. However, you should have that either in the manual that came with the modem. If you didn't find anything in the manual, look onto the diskettes that came with the modem. Usually there is a technical text on one of them detailing the command set and other things about your modem. It's a normal text file you can read with just anything ( e.g. less ). > (I guess, this is independet of the modem, but I use a 3Com > Etherlink III -- combined Ethernet/modem PCMCIA card.) Hmmm.....smells like former US Robotics.....in this case consult the tech doc AT ANY RATE. They have a tendency to modify the original Hayes command set in ways that cause you no end of trouble if you mistakenly think that they are fully Hayes compatible. Example normally at&f rests your modem and loads it with factory defaults. If you use it that way with US Robotics it defaults to at&f0 which are factory defaults WITHOUT FLOW CONTROL that cause mysterious line drops, buffer overruns etc. With them you have to select at&f1, then it works correctly. Hope that helps.
