That sounded like so much fun, I thought I'd try. I just ran up samba
with security = share and:

# This one is useful for people to share files
[tmp]
   comment = Temporary file space
   path = /tmp
   read only = no
   public = yes
   guest ok = yes

It worked fine from NT 4.0

	net use f: \\host\tmp
