As PLIP controls the signals directly, it wastes CPU for sending/receiving packets. It's not good for heavy data transfer, I mainly use it for data transfer between notebook computer and desktop PC. If you're watching the 2.1.x development of Linux, you might notice that PLIP driver is the 1st SMP-aware network driver in Linux! :-) Yes, it also works for SMP machine. For those who don't know PLIP: PLIP stands for Parallel Line IP. Using parallel port, establish connection between two PC. The cable (so-called LapLink Cable or InterLink Cable) costs Y2,000.- or so. Poorman's networking. ;-) Thanks, -- NIIBE Yutaka --------------------------------------------------------------- Next TLUG Meeting: 11 April Sat, Tokyo Station Yaesu gate 12:30 Featuring Tague Griffith of Netscape i18n talking on source code --------------------------------------------------------------- a word from the sponsor: TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System www.twics.com info@example.com Tel:03-3351-5977 Fax:03-3353-6096
