tlug: xdm problem

Hallo everyone, 

I have some problems with xdm. I would like to start 
with a graphical login, but when I type 
xdm from X enviroment nothing happens, while when 
I type it without X-system I get once again the login, 
but no windows pops up ... 
Do you know what to do?
