This may sound strange ... but make sure that the fan is cooling the CPU
properly.  Ensure that there isn't any gunk clogging the fan, that the
heat sink grease is still healthy, and that cables aren't blocking the
airflow.

I had the _same_ problem about a year and a half ago.  I thought that it
was twitchy RAM, bad cache ... I replaced half of the box before the light
clicked on.
