tlug: chinese character site

I just met a guy here who is doing this site on the etymology of Chinese
characters.  He is not a linguist, but I like his presentation.  I am
wondering if there is a similar site out there using Japanese instead of
Chinese, or if there are tools out there (preferably running under Linux) that
do something similar.  If not, I might like to do something like this for
Japanese (I am interested in dictionaries).  Please take a look at this and
let me know what you think.

One thing: his site is optimized for Netscape running under Windows.  Of
course I'm not going to copy _that_.
