Let's do it at the next meeting. Another alternative, TWICS has a permanent Quake server on the Internet. It is running under Linux OS, Intel hardware. On Thursday 19:30 the TWICS staff core Quake team - Bobo, Unya, Shagger, Enviro Man, and Cow Man is willing to challenge an HSBC led team to death matches. We're usually joined by Yeah! of the financial industries. Yeah! is an excellent player and sometimes comes in at the top. We'll give HSBC Yeah! to compensate for the play of some of the novice members. TWICS has a set time for members vs. staff at Thursday 19:30. We can change this to TWICS staff vs. the financial industry lads and ladies. TWICS staff will probably have a death match on Sunday at 21:00. If you connect with a TWICS account, the server is quake.twics.com running both Quake and Quake World. We'll be on the Quake server. If you connect from outside of the TWICS accounts, we have to get your IP addresses in advance so that we can allow access. This would only be good for a death match organized in advance for people with fixed IP addresses. If this is too much, we can probably find a person (maybe me) to turn their Linux box into a Quake server for the TLUG Quake match. BTW, the makers of Quake only support Solaris on Sparc, Windows on Intel, and Linux on Intel as their main Quake servers. Linux is by far the most efficient. For those new to Quake, there are several Quake-related software packages for Linux, Quake X11, Quake SVGA, Quake World X11, Quake World SVGA, Quake server, Quake World server, Quake spy X11, and Quake XF86. My recommendation is to get the Quake SVGA, also known as squake. Let me know if HSBC or a Linux league is going to take up the challenge, so I have time to download the Quake training videos and work on some drills. ;-) Joe volunteered to organize the opposing team, so if you want to form a team, contact Joe Marchak.
