Sorry, should've mentioned this. You can find them in a nearby GNU
mirror. One that I know is:

ftp://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/GNU/elisp/mime/alpha

The order of installation seems important. I started with
xemacs-20.2 and compiled it with mule and canna. The betas of
xemacs don't appear to work right with this yet. Next I put in
apel, mel, semi and gnus-mime, in that order. And then all was
fine in Gnus, at least for news reading at the moment...
