Okay, okay it is not AFAIK ghostview, by gv 3.5.8.  By the way,
this is what is included in the new PJE packages.

Unlikely, but true.  I did find out why though.

This was the problem.  I really hadn't even thought of that.  The whole
time I'm thinking that somehow I have my fonts screwed up.  But in
reality, I had an older version of gs in my path before the newer
version.  When I removed the older version.  No problem.  I really
appreciate your help.  It only took you to say look at the path, for
me to realize what was going on, but I think I may never have thought
of that myself.  

Thanks again,  now I will always remember to make sure I am running
the program I think I am running.
