I seemed to vaguely remember having solved the problem of Netscape 3.0 crashing with Craig Oda's help (?) a long while ago. Indeed, when I checked, I found I'm actually running a tiny script when I start Netscape - I still use 3.0 Gold - called 'runet', which consists of these two lines: export LD_PRELOAD="/lib/libc.so.5.0.9" exec /usr/X11R6/bin/netscape-gold -geometry 650x700 & This solves all instabilities once and for all. Now on the other hand 4.0 never worked for me at all, but I haven't bothered trying it since it was first released. By the way, for anyone burning CDs, there's a new (as of 10/18) version of xcdroast (0.96c), which incorporates cdrecord rather than cdwriter. Anyone using cdrecord should take a look at it. It seems to work very nicely, indeed. You'll find it at: http://www.fh-muenchen.de/rz/xcdroast Enjoy!
