It is just patches to allow glibc and I think libc on m68k or SPARC
or something like that.  Very minor stuff--it's still a two-year old
version of gcc.


Far more interesting (I am highly biased here) is the new egcs project
(pronounced "eggs") that was started a week ago.

We've taken the current gcc sources and are starting a new development
model with them--we're going to work to integrate all the various
strands of gcc that are all over the place (Linux strands, pgcc
strands, Fortran and other front-ends, etc.) and bring in new
contributors.  The FSF's development model for gcc (and emacs) has very
closed and we think this is really hurting its development.

There are snapshots of egcs available right now, our first full release
will be up by September.

I think this is really exciting stuff.  If you use C++, you know that
G++ has undergone huge improvements since gcc 2.7 was released; we're
finally getting that out to the masses.
