tlug: Silicon Valley Linux Installfest

--------------------------------------------------------
tlug note from Jim Tittsler <jwt@example.com>
--------------------------------------------------------
I flew into San Jose, California on July 26th, just in time for the local
Linux user group's installfest. Rather than go to sleep, I wandered over to
the site listed in their comp.os.linux.announce announcement. There I found
a group of about 15 still present about 2 1/2 hours into their scheduled 6
hour "fest." About two thirds of the people had brought along a machine
(everything from old 386 desktops to fancy notebooks to one SPARC IPX) and
were busily installing either the RedHat or SUSE distributions. They had a
couple of network hubs allowing some network installs. There was lots of
"advice" from different members about all the usual hot topics from how to
partition to what to install.

It was reassuring to note that they didn't seem too much better organized
than our SPARCfest had been. :-)
