The good news is that I've reproduced the problem, although with Netscape 2.02, and futzing with the Japanese fonts does *not* change the bottons, so they must use resources elsewhere even though they appear within the document display area. Looking in Netscape.ad for 3.0beta4, we have ! ============================================================================ ! Fonts in the widgets. ! These fonts are all down in Motif land, and thus are not controlled by the ! font selector on the Preferences dialog. That applies only to fonts in ! the document display area. ! ============================================================================ which is even better news, I was RIGHT!! :-) Some more possibly relevant pieces--- *fontList: -*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-* Probably irrelevant, since the buttons seem to be Courier font. *XmTextField.fontList: -*-courier-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-* *XmText.fontList: -*-courier-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-* *XmList*fontList: -*-courier-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-* * popup*fontList: -*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-* *docinfoButton.fontList: -*-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-* *fontSize.XmPushButtonGadget.labelType: STRING You could try the *XmTextField.fontList resource, but probably the resource name ought to have Button in it. So *XmPushButton.labelFont or *XmPushButtonGadget.labelFont, or either of those with "fontList" instead of "labelFont". (Anybody have the Motif docs and know what the font resource for a XmPushButton is?) *docinfoButton.fontList is helvetica by default, so I don't think that's right. Lots of cut and try here, I'm afraid, and I haven't got time for it. As for what font you want to put in there, try -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-jisx0208-* for starters. Or fire up xlsfonts and look around for jisx0208 fonts. I don't know that this will work, unfortunately. One would hope that Buttons can have labels in any character set, but I don't know if it's true (I think it is).
