MO SCSI Drive problem

I'm having problems with a MO drive. I previously had it working,
but it seems to lose the partition table. I added an ext2 filesystem
to it and it worked. Is this necessary? However, on my next
boot, it didn't work. This is the error message:

ic7xxx: Target 6, channel A, now synchronous at 5.0MHz, offset(0x8).
Vendor: DELTIS Model: MOS321 Rev: 3.60

I'm going to repartition it with fdisk. However, this means that
I loose my data. Am I doing something wrong?

Regards,
Craig
