It just dawned on me that Jim's problem might not be the colormap, but rather the processor load or RAM allocation. In addition to limiting the color cells with -C num you can also limit the amount of fish with -f num, the number of bubbles with -b num, the move interval with -i num (default 0.2), and the move frequency with -r num (default 0.2). When I had my 486 33mhz I would have a low amount of fish and limit the colors to about 12. I have four colors on my background now and the rest of my applications seem to be unaffected. Anyone heard from Steve Turnbull?
