Hi Steve,
  Sure, wide scsi is much faster, how much depends on the os and drivers, 
but 10-20% faster over a narraow fast Barracuda 7200 rpm setup is not 
uncommon.  For 14 devices, you'd need a 3940 twin channel, these are very 
handy for RAID with the RAID sw in the OS like NT, you just slap drives on 
the 2nd channel and you can do raid 0 striping or 1 mirroring through the 
OS.

For Wide SCSI you need Wide SCSI drives.  They are expensive, consider Ultra 
SCSI, the drives are now in production, though Wide SCSI will be around for 
awhile.
