Modem dial strings

tedm@example.com (Ted Matsumura) says

Try putting an "X3" in the dial string.

That was my first guess; good thinking Ted. :-) What this does
(possibly among others) is clear the "wait-for-dial-tone" capability.
You may need to add explicit waiting (commas) between your outside
line access code and the phone number. If you're not using an outside
line access code, then probably "X3" won't help.

Jim S. asks

BTW Seyon dials out with no problems. Is there a way of finding out
what string it uses then give it to dip?

Yes. Unfortunately, it's a little complicated to explain where to
look. (You knew that; seyon is an X application.) The first place to
look is ~/.seyon/startup; if no joy, do "man seyon" and check out the
"FILES" section near the end of the man page. It explains where you
might find all the seyon configuration files.
