RE: Thinkpad stuff... Since everything is working fine right now I'm nt going to mess with it :) (I know, that's hardly a good hackers point of view :( RE: DOOM... I suspect that the performance difference also involve X. Although most of the performance degradation is probably due to the asm -vs- C stuff, X is not the fastest graphics environment. New: How're peoples window managers going? I recently switched over to fvwm and I'm enjoying it quite a lot, I've modified many of the menus and key mappings, so now with the quick click of a key or two I can swap between virtual desktops, or even scroll around the XFREE virtual screen. I can also bring windows to front or back with a key press, very convienient with my limited 640X480 thinkpad screen. Anyone start playing with TeX yet? I have, it's a pain in the butt, but I'm starting to get used to it. I think I'll buy the TeX Book and the LaTeX manual when I have a chance. I'm written a 15 page document in TeX with symbols, bulleted lists, sections, subsections, etc, but it took a long tome to get used to and I had to write a lot of macros to do what I wanted. Much of this is available in LaTex, but since the only documentation I had was the Gentle Guide to TeX I wanted to write it in TeX only, not LaTeX. Anyway, it's possible, but if you want to do it regularly, definitely buy the real books. The Gentle guide it nice, but just scrapes the surface and left me with more questions than answers. I ended up learning a lot more by looking at the TeX code itself than the formatted output. BTW, a wondergul tool is xdvi with allows to you view dvi files directly without printing or converting to PostScript first. It was installed on my machine with the TeX package. Just to let you people know, I'm going on vacation from Friday the 23rd until Oct 3, so if you send me a message I'm not ignoring you, I'm just not here. See ya and talk to ya when I get back.
