if you considered also https://github.com/slackhq/nebula as
alternative, then hearing about that would also be interesting.

I have only looked at headscale (tailscale) but nebula looks broadly similar. It looks like nebule uses its own protocol for encryption so is probably doing a lot more then headscale. Headscale is built on top of wireguard so most of the work is done by that with headscale just comunicating the mappings.
