I'm not sure if this is beneficial for others considering upgrading
Ubuntu to 16.04, but as I need to use programs I used to use, I'm
finding additionally (relatively minor) problems.

Today, I had to install package A which is related to package B. But
to install package A, package B had to be uninstalled. It turns out,
even though they are related packages, only one can be installed at a
time. The "solution" was to install the upstream binary of A into
/usr/local/bin . It works, but obviously not ideal.

I think circular dependencies like this (there was another similar
scenario on the weekend, but I gave up and just re-installed the whole
OS) is what I'm experiencing with the upgrade to 16.04 . I wonder is
it because they've moved completely away from Python 2 to Python 3?
After all, there are quite a few packages that rely on Python...

I'll have other shared computers which I'll have to upgrade...but I
guess they can wait until 16.04.1 gets released. :-)

PS: The installation of ibus-mozc appeared to have worked, even after
a reboot. Though I wouldn't be surprised if I encounter some circular
dependency later that undoes this. :-D
