I'm still wondering why they were targeted.  Refused to pay ransom to
gangsters?  Hosting Tibetan or Uigur advocacy sites?  Corporate warfare?

I wondered about that too. As described, the attacks were very sophisticated.
Not at all what you'd expect from a posse of amateurs doing it for kicks.

During the first couple of days that this was happening, and our site manager (Michael Beddow) was trying to follow it, he thought that we might have to leave Linode, saying that the attacks were on a scale that could only be mounted by a good-sized corporation, or even a state. So yes, extortion, or trying to put Linode out of business. I suppose that one of the sites they are hosting could be someone doing something of a sensitive nature to someone. I doubt that they're going after my site.

That being said, we're presently having a different problem with with the DDB, which also almost smells like an attack, although I can't imagine our project being big enough to attract such attention.
