Not Steve but...

I have been looking at some troubles regarding GPL licensing in
projects I'm interested. As far as I can tell, if the copyright of the
code belongs to the company (as opposed to the employee) AND the
company has not distributed the code to a third party, the company can
remove the GPL notice without problems.

If the company has distributed this code to the third party, it still
can remove the notice, but the copy that the third party possess is
still licensed by the GPL.
