I also do not recommend relying on WiFi. Cellular data is much more convenient, and can be recharged as needed.

I used B-Mobile late last fall on my imported Gingerbread based Android for a little under two weeks. It took me a while to figure out why I could connect to DoCoMo but couldn't use data. I had to edit the stock PPP configuration file to change the login name to "bmobile". I already had root, and I found the tip on a web search.

B-Mobile does offer a list of compatible handsets. (Mine wasn't included, but I took a chance.)

Overall, I agree with Nikolay Elenkov's suggestion to use a battery-powered data-only WiFi access point if your data-only SIM choices are limited by your existing equipment.

One thing about regular WiFi: it appeared to me that some access points blocked Skype. I'm not certain what the problem was.
