While I'm trying not to over-analyze my casual comment, I stick by the
DRY point. E.g. If she decides to change point 15, and will only accept
Linux users, not even Mac users, she has to edit both
boyfriend_require.txt and README.md.

If she deleted boyfriend_require.txt, now it has served its purpose,
from github it would make her a lot more attractive in my eye.

P.S. When I was a lad growing up in England, the paper had a game called
"spot the ball", where the football had been carefully erased from a
photo of a shot at goal in a recent match. You marked it on with an X,
cut out the photo, and sent it off to the newspaper, to win big money.
